Alzarri Joseph was handed a two-match ban for his conduct during West Indies’ eight-wicket win over England in the series decider in Barbados on Wednesday.
Joseph was visibly frustrated with the way his pitch was laid down by Windies captain Shai Hope in the fourth over of the England innings and took out his frustrations by bouncing number three batter Jordan Cox.
The 27-year-old stormed off the field at the end of the match, temporarily leaving the hosts at 10 on the field, before returning, but his actions were little overlooked by the Windies.
“Alzarri’s behavior did not correspond to the core values that Cricket West Indies stands for,” said Miles Bascombe, CWI director of cricket.
“Such conduct cannot be ignored and we have taken decisive action to ensure the seriousness of the situation is fully recognized.”
Joseph looks set to miss the weekend’s T20 double header against England at Kensington Oval.
“I recognize that my passion got the better of me,” Joseph said. “I personally apologized to captain Shai Hope, my teammates and management.
“I also extend my sincere apologies to West Indies fans. I understand that even a brief error in judgment can have a huge impact, and I deeply regret any disappointment caused.”
