A LYMM rugby team made up entirely of “dads and their boys” won their cup this weekend.
Fourteen fathers have teamed up with 14 of their sons to create a unique squad of players for the clash with Wallasey at Crouchley Lane – and they’re checking to see if it’s a world record!
The fathers, who are in the twilight of their playing careers, and their boys, who are starting out at senior level after attending the Lymm mini, junior and Colts academy, have teamed up for the Lymm Eagles, which is the club’s third team rugby.
The rugby on display was a treat to watch as Lymm defeated their spirited visitors 46-24 and progressed to the next round of the NOWIRUL Cotton Traders Bowl competition.
Match organizer and one of the fathers who played, Martin Henderson, was proud of everyone who got involved.
“It seemed like a can’t-miss opportunity,” he said.
“As fathers, we all watched and supported our boys growing up playing rugby at Lymm and now we play alongside them. Honestly, it was a huge pleasure for all of us!
“In addition, we have been in contact with the Guinness Book of World Records to see if this has ever been done before, with these figures.
“We send them evidence, including this photo, the team sheet and match footage, and await their response.
“You never know, and maybe we will have another chance to play together in the next round of the cup.”
