MISTLEY Rugby players have been able to purchase four post protectors for their current season thanks to a grant from broadband provider Gigaclear.
Mistley Rugby Union Football Club (RUFC) has received a £1,000 grant from broadband provider Gigaclear’s Rural Sports Club Fund, worth £100,000, which aims to support teams based in rural communities in 26 counties.
Using this fund, Mistley RUFC was able to purchase four post protectors – which cover the posts and improve player safety – for the current season.
Mistley players Maro Itojes, 30, and Alex Matthews, 31, have been given a boost to realize their dreams thanks to a new sports fund backed by former England cricketer Darren Gough.
The club’s first XV captain, Drew Whittock, 28, said: “The new post protectors will provide a much higher level of protection for our youth, women’s and men’s players.
“Player safety is paramount and the quality of this new equipment means they will be used for many seasons to come. We are pleased to have been able to benefit from the Gigaclear Rural Sports Club Fund and look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.
Fund ambassador Darren Gough, 54, added: “Since the fund launched it has gone from strength to strength, providing valuable support where it is most needed.
“It’s great to see so many kits and equipment being sent to rural sports clubs such as Mistley RUFC. I believe this will help make a difference for today’s players and tomorrow’s rural sports teams. »
The community club, established in 1983, plays its matches at the playing fields at Furze Hill, Mistley, and the club has a large youth section as well as senior teams.
While over 3,300 homes and businesses in Mistley and neighboring Manningtree can now access Gigaclear’s fiber broadband offering superfast speeds of up to 900 Mbps and for more information visit Gigaclear.com
